What is the Sick Bank?

The Certified Employees' Sick Bank provides additional sick leave days to members who have suffered a major personal illness, injury, disability, or quarantine and whose personal leave, sick leave, compensatory time, and vacation leave has been exhausted.

How do Employees join the Sick Bank?

An employee must contribute 3 earned sick leave days upon enrollment. Employees are also subject to additional, periodic assessments of 1-3 days voted upon and approved by the Sick Bank Committee.  Notice is given prior to any additional assessment.

There is a 30 calendar day waiting period before new members may apply for use of the Bank.  For pre-existing conditions, the waiting period is 90 calendar days.

When can Employees join the Sick Bank?

An employee may join the Sick Bank during Open Enrollment (the months of August, September and October). Enrollment forms are available on-line.  A link is provided below for your convenience (lower right-hand corner).

How do Employees get days if they are eligible?

Application forms and physician statement forms may be obtained by calling the Sick Bank Office at 594-4436.  The completed forms should be sent to the Certified Employees' Sick Bank Office, Andrew Johnson Building.  Employees must submit a Certified Sick Bank Request form and a Certified Sick Leave Bank Physician Statement before they may be granted days.

Application may be made for up to 20 days at a time.  A maximum of 60 days may be used in one school year.  Elective surgery and pregnancies are not covered by the Bank.
